Increased protection to provide the best protection

  • McAfee Global Threat Intelligence file reputation — For cloud-based real-time malware detection. McAfee anti-virus technology with McAfee GTI technology blocks viruses and malicious code threats and offers real-time security using a combination of signature and behavior analysis with community threat intelligence. It drills down to find threats using advanced heuristics and generic detection. It even finds and blocks new viruses before they are detected with the latest .DAT signatures.

Known issues

Known issues in this release of the software are described below:

  • Reference ID: 526180

Issue: On-demand Scan deleted samples greater than 10MB, instead of cleaning the samples. This was due to the default settings limitation set to 10MB in the Microsoft Exchange 2010 Client Access Server’s "WEB.CONFIG" file.

Workaround: In the WEB.CONFIG file, modify the following values in all the CAS servers to the required size:

    • maxAllowedContentLength
    • EWSHttpsBinding | maxReceivedMessageSize
    • EWSWSSecurityBinding | maxReceivedMessageSize
    • Default Path: C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\ClientAccess\ExchWeb\ews\web.config
  • Reference ID: 533556/649758

Issue: On-demand scan fails to scan the mailbox on Microsoft Exchange Server 2010.

The following event was logged in the Event Viewer:

Microsoft.Exchange.Configuration.Tasks.ManagementObjectNotFoundException: User or group "%USERDNSDOMAIN%\McOD_<ComputerName>" wasn't found. Please make sure you've typed it correctly.

Workaround: Perform the following task on all the McAfee Security for Microsoft Exchange servers (MailBox role):

    1. From the command prompt, navigate to the C:\Program Files(x86)\McAfee\MSME\bin folder.
    2. Execute the following command:

      ConfigureX64.exe CreateODUser

    3. This creates a McAfee Security for Microsoft Exchange user (McOD_<ComputerName>) in the Active Directory users. This user will be displayed in the Exchange Management Console | Recipient Configuration | Mailbox, whenever the next on-demand scan is scheduled.

  • Reference ID: 630448

Issue: When the McAfee Security for Microsoft Exchange product debug path is set to NULL, it results in a store crash and the store service fails to start.

Workaround: Do not leave the debug path blank.

  • Reference ID: 647017

Issue: McAfee Global Threat Intelligence file reputation with sensitivity level set to Medium fails to scan for the first time.

Workaround: Restart McAfee Security for Microsoft Exchange Service.

  • Reference ID: 650600

Issue: On an Exchange SCC cluster, when you apply a McAfee Security for Microsoft Exchange policy, the Postgres db path gets modified and process fails to load.

    Workaround:

    1. Take a backup of McAfeeconfig.xml under McAfee\MSME\config folder.
    2. Before bringing the McAfee Cluster Framework resource online, edit McAfeeconfig.xml.

    3. Search for MaxQuerySize, and set the Path = " ".
    4. Set the Path to NULL.
      NOTE:
      • The Path displays the location selected for the local database during installation.
      • If McAfeeconfig.xml is edited using notepad, the file has to be saved in the Unicode format.
  • Reference ID: 627679

Issue: UnInstallation of McAfee Anti-Spam fails when McAfee Security for Microsoft Exchange is uninstalled first.

Workaround: Uninstall McAfee Anti-Spam Add-on first.

  • Reference ID: 631462

Issue: On Windows 2008 Server with Exchange SCC cluster, McAfee Security for Microsoft Exchange resource fails to come online.

Workaround: Follow the instructions in KB 53396.

  • Reference ID: 640152

Issue: If an email is sent to two or more mailboxes, where one of the mailboxes is excluded, then the email does not get scanned. However, if Transport Scanning is enabled, all the emails will be scanned.

Workaround: No workaround available. This will be fixed in the next release cycle.

  • Reference ID: 646338

Issue: McAfee Security for Microsoft Exchange installation fails when an exported configuration file is used.

    Workaround:
    • Install McAfee Security for Microsoft Exchange without using the Export Configuration option.
    • You can import the product configuration using the Import/Export in the product UI .
  • Reference ID: 651708

Issue: If you modify McAfee Security for Microsoft Exchange Installer and then add McAfee Anti-spam add-on, Anti-spam fails to scan spam.

Workaround: Restart Microsoft Exchange Transport Service.

  • Reference ID: 651811

Issue: Unable to change the action for File Filtering rule, when McAfee Security for Microsoft Exchange web browser interface is accessed using IE 8.0.

Workaround: No workaround available. This will be fixed in the next release cycle.

  • Reference ID: 651956

Issue: Repeated notifications are sent by Product Health Alerts regarding database disk space availability, if McAfee Security for Microsoft Exchange is managed through ePolicy Orchestrator.

Workaround: From the product UI, under Settings and Diagnostics, select Detected Items. In the section Local Database, for Disk size check interval (minute), set the value to the maximum required.

Testing your McAfee Security for Microsoft Exchange installation

When you have completed installation of McAfee Security for Microsoft Exchange, we recommend that you test the installation to ensure that the software is installed properly and can detect viruses and spam within the email messages.

The recommended method to test an anti-virus product is to attach an EICAR anti-virus test file to an email message, and to send the message through the Exchange server where you’ve just installed McAfee Security for Microsoft Exchange.

The EICAR standard anti-virus test file was created jointly by several anti-virus vendors throughout the world to implement a standard by which customers can verify their anti-virus installations.
NOTE: This file is not a virus. Ensure that you delete the file when you have finished testing your installation to avoid alarming unsuspecting users.

To test your installation:

  1. Copy the following line into its own file, making sure you do not include any spaces or line breaks. Save the file with the name EICAR.COM.
    X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*

The file size will be 68 bytes.

  2. Make sure McAfee Security for Microsoft Exchange service is up and running. Send a mail using your mail client with Eicar.Com as an attachment. Check the mail in the recipient’s mailbox. The mail will contain a file warning.txt attached which replaces the sample virus file Eicar.Com. This action is as per the default settings of the product.
  3. McAfee Security for Microsoft Exchange replaces the EICAR test file with an alert message.
Important: Please note that this file Eicar.Com is NOT A VIRUS. For more information on the EICAR test file, visit: http://www.eicar.org
